Holiday Show at Winter Park Playhouse is a Big Hit

If you are heading home for the holidays, see the holiday show entitled “home for the Holidays” at The Winter park playhouse before you go. This show is guaranteed to put you in the holiday spirit and set your spirits soaring.

It would be hard to pick out any “best” performers, because they all put out stellar performances, from the youngest to the oldest (in experience that is).

The kids, Olivia Cato, Hannah Greek, David McCarthy, William Pavlovich, Alexander Thomas and Olivia van den Berg performed almost flawlessly with professional mannerisms, voices, stage movements and self-assurance.

Heather Alexander, Todd Allen Long, Mark Richard Taylor and Laura Anne Hodos were again, outstanding, each with their own individual style, vocal range and talents.

From the opening “Christmas Waltz” by Alexander and the “Christmas Medley” by the cast, to the closing “Home Medley” by the cast, this heart-warming show is indeed about home, happiness, holiday spirit and joy.

There are some that are truly remarkable, at least in my opinion. The “Bell Medley,” performed by the entire cast, is delightful. Every song with the mention of a bell in it was sung – from “Silver Bells” and “Jingle Bells” to even “Ding, Dong the Witch is Dead.” The performers even wore bells on the costumes.

“Where Are You Christmas?” by Cato, Greek and van den Berg was especially charming and “We are Santa’s Elves” by the kids also stands out.

Another crowd pleaser was “Holiday Time with Florence and Ebony” performed by Heather Alexander and Laura Anne Hodos. What a crazy duo! The comedic style of Alexander stands out and Hodos is delightful.

Of course, no Christmas show would be complete without someone singing about “Mr. Grinch” and Taylor did it with pizzaz.

“I’ll Be Home for Christmas” by Long and “Merry Christmas, Darling,” by Alexander were melancholy tunes and gave some in the audience a little lump in the throat as they thought of loved ones away from home during the holidays.

Todd Allen Long pleased the audience with “Happy Hanukkah, My Friend” and Mark Richard Taylor was delightful, endearing and talented in every song.

“Grandma’s Killer Fruitcake” by Taylor was a “killer” and the antics by the cast added to the humor.

“I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas,” performed by David McCarthy, was cute and well done, and a real crowd pleaser. William Pavlovich happily sang “All I Want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth.”

There was also the “Winter Medley,” “Animated TV Special Medley” (a real hoot), “Boys Medley” and the “Santa Medley.”

Roy Alan, who produced and directed the show calls it a “musical celebration of life, love and family.” Jason Wetzel was the musical director. This is a show for the entire family. Don’t miss this one!
